The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 was the 68th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It is scheduled to take place in Malmö, Sweden, following the country's victory at the 2023 contest with the song "Tattoo" by Loreen. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Sveriges Television (SVT), the contest was held at the Malmö Arena, and consisted of two semi-finals on 7 and 9 May, and a final on 11 May 2024. The three live shows were presented by Petra Mede and Malin Åkerman, with the former having previously taken on the role in 2013 and 2016.

Thirty-seven countries participated in the contest, with Luxembourg returning 31 years after its last participation in 1993, while Romania opted not to participate after doing so the previous year. The Netherlands was disqualified from the contest between the second semi-final and the final, but Dutch viewers retained their right to vote. The inclusion of Israel among the participants in the context of the ongoing Israel–Hamas war was met with controversy, and additional security measures were put in place for the event. Israel's performances during the contest were subject to repeated booing from the audience in the arena during the live shows.

The winner was Switzerland with the song "The Code", performed by Swiss singer Nemo and written by them with Benjamin Alasu, Lasse Midtsian Nymann and Linda Dale. Switzerland won the combined vote and jury vote, and placed fifth in the televote. Croatia won the televote and finished in second place, its best result to date as an independent country, having previously won the 1989 contest as a part of Yugoslavia. Ukraine, France, and Israel completed the top five.

The EBU reported that the contest had a television audience of 163 million viewers in 37 European markets, an increase of a million viewers from the previous edition, with an additional 7.3 million viewers online on YouTube.

Broadcast notes[]

  • Belgium - During the broadcast of the second semi-final on VRT 1, ACOD-VRT, VRT's internal socialist trade union, aired a statement before and after the broadcast, denouncing Israel for violating human rights, and accusing the country for "destroying the press".
  • Finland - Käärijä was supposed to announce the jury points from the country, but due to undisclosed reasons, he withdrew and was replaced by Toni Laaksonen.
  • Netherlands - Nikkie de Jager was supposed to announce the jury points from the country, but due to the country's disqualification from the grand final, she withdrew and Österdahl, who served as the contest's executive supervisor, announced them instead.
  • Norway - Alessandra was supposed to announce the jury points from the country, but due to her opposition to Israel's participation in the contest, she withdrew and was replaced by Ingvild Helljesen.
  • Portugal - The second semi-final started on a delayed basis on RTP1 and RTP Internacional at 22:30 WEST, while the final started on a delayed basis on RTP África at 21:01 WEST.
  • Serbia - During Poland's performance in the first semi-final, the broadcast was abruptly moved from RTS1 to RTS2 without warning so the former could air the arrival ceremony for Chinese President Xi Jinping, who was conducting a state visit to Serbia. RTS2 aired approximately 25 minutes of the first semi-final, including the remainder of the Polish entry, Iceland and Croatia's performances, and the first part of Germany's interval performance. The broadcast was eventually brought back to RTS1 shortly after.
  • Sweden - SVT Play's Inari Sámi and Northern Sámi broadcasts of all shows is a simulcast of the feed from Finland's Yle Areena.
  • Ukraine - The semi-finals were broadcast on Radio Promin with TV commentary by Miroshnychenko, while Zakharchenko and Antypenko only commentated on the second recaps (which Miroshnychenko left unnarrated on TV). The broadcasts also included brief studio discussions and brief on-site reports by Anna Zakletska between the close of the voting window and results announcements, which were presented by Zakharchenko and Antypenko.
